The WYO Theater was originally built in 1923 as the Lotus, a vaudeville theater. The theater entertained Sheridan families for nearly 60 years with both live performances and films before closing its doors in 1982.

But thanks to some dedicated people a non-profit corporation was established to “Save the WYO.” After extensive community involvement, fund raising, and remodeling the theater reopened in October of 1989.

The WYO Theater seats 483 people comfortably and has hosted many performers and entertained countless patrons over the years. Now, it is used by the Sheridan community for many different purposes. From educational talks to Miss Wyoming competitions and even a place to drink fine whiskeys while admiring art, the WYO serves the Sheridan community as the theater to feature an event.

Many of those presentations, film festivals and even live shows require the use of a projector that can produce high-definition images.

Recently the projector that has been operating at the theater has stopped working.

The WYO Theater is participating in WyoGives with the goal of raising funds to purchase a new projector for the theater.

Thanks to long-time supporter Christy Love, donations made to the WYO Theater on July 13, through WyoGives will be matched dollar-for-dollar up to $6,000.

WyoGives is a statewide 24-hour online fundraising event designed to bring the state together as one community in fellowship to raise money and awareness for Wyoming’s nonprofits.
