The man arrested after a disturbance at Buffalo’s city council meeting Tuesday has been charged with two misdemeanors.

Joshua Waits was arrested after the city council meeting for Breach of Peace and then Interference for injuring an officer during his arrest, according to Buffalo Police Chief Sean Bissett.

Bissett said Waits spoke to the council to bring up concerns involving the police department.

Bissett said he has every right to do so, but when Waits became unruly and caused a disturbance, the meeting was adjourned.

Bissett explained the altercation outside of City Hall.

The charge of Breach of Peace carries a penalty of up to 6 months in jail and up to a $750 fine; while the Interference charge carries a penalty of up to one year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.

Listen to the audio. The guy was probably too assertive on trying to make his point (with or without merit TBD), but I didn’t hear anything that warranted adjournment or certainly arrest. Lesson here: Don’t question the police while in front of the police.

So it is all, “respect the Blue”, until it’s you. No citizen has the right to blow up a public meeting. I miss the Wyoming that knew when we could meet in town halls open to everybody and have a civil talk with our elected officials, not just paid party functions. Barbara Cubin and the raucous Tea Party blew that up. The last ones I attended, the TP crowd would shout down and threaten anyone in the hall that they held unworthy of breath.
