Sheridan Memorial Hospital has received the American College of Cardiology’s Heart Failure Accreditation based on the hospital’s competence and specific standards that are in place to provide care to patients with heart failure.
Kristi Ramsey, RN, who’s the hospital’s Cath Lab and Interventional Radiology manager, said the heart failure accreditation isn’t easy to obtain. Accreditation is awarded after a rigorous onsite review by the American College of Cardiology, a yearlong process that reviews over 70 mandatory components that focus on the hospital’s policies, standards, protocols and education related to heart failure.
Memorial hospital staff reviewed policies and ensured that the college’s heart failure guidelines for patient care were met or exceeded.
Ramsey said the review is an ongoing internal look at how the hospital cares for the specific population of the community that has this disease. She said the hospital is required to submit documentation to show a continual process in heart failure care, including education offerings to providers, staff, EMS and the community.
The accreditation is for three years, then the hospital will be reviewed again on all of the mandatory components for re-accreditation.
Ramsey said the hospital is honored to have earned the accreditation, adding a lot of work was required on the part of many physicians and employees. She said the accreditation will definitely help the hospital in its mission to provide excellent patient-centered care for the community.
