Aaron PalmerAt their meeting this week, the Johnson County Cemetery District Board discussed and then approved the structure of district employees and voted to begin the process of hiring a new sexton.
The board had discussed adding a separate administrative position, but ultimately voted to keep their current employee structure which consists of a sexton, deputy sexton, permanent part-time position, and a seasonal position.
The board discussed job descriptions, and after some research found they had approved them in a meeting from September of 2021.
Also approved was advertising to hire a new sexton for the cemetery, and to have the board act as the hiring committee as a whole.
According to joincake.com, a cemetery sexton is in charge of the cemetery. They help to coordinate care of the cemetery, manage the legal and public record aspects of burials, and also help with overall recordkeeping.
