Sheridan Man Changes Plea, Sentenced in District Court

At an arraignment hearing on August 31, 2021 in 4th Judicial District Court in Sheridan, 25-year-old Charles Albin pleaded not guilty by reason of mental impairment or deficiency to the charge of felony theft for allegedly stealing a Ford Expedition from a residence on Avoca Avenue in Sheridan on August 4, 2021. A mental health evaluation conducted by the Wyoming State Hospital determined that Albin was competent to proceed.

Albin, at a hearing Tuesday, pleaded guilty to an amended charge of misdemeanor unauthorized use of a vehicle. District Court Judge Darci Phillips accepted the terms of the plea agreement that was reached with the state and sentenced Albin to 280 days in jail with credit for 280 days of time served. Albin was also ordered to pay a $150 fee along with court costs consistent with what is imposed in Circuit Court due to the fact that the charge was amended to a misdemeanor.
