Johnson County to Apply for South Bypass Trail Funding

Johnson County’s Commissioners have approved Road & Bridge to submit a letter to the Wyoming Department of Transportation for funding through their Transportation Alternative Program (TAP) for a proposed walking trail on the South Bypass Road.
Road & Bridge Supervisor Scott Pehringer explained to the commission what he was seeking approval on.
Commission Chairman Bill Novotny spoke in favor of seeking funding.
According to Pehringer, the original design of the walkway originated near the existing trail near the bridge over Clear Creek on the South Bypass Road, extending south along Bypass Road to Cemetery Road to link with the existing trail there.
With the upcoming WYDOT Main Street project coming in 2024, the idea will be to tie the trail in with Main Street and possibly South Burritt Avenue as well.
The original estimate on the project was roughly $400,000 and funding would come in a 90/10 format with local entities contributing the 10 percent.
The cost to the county would be determined by the number of partners involved in the project, according to discussions.
