Sheridan Dog and Cat Shelter develops strategic plan

The Sheridan Dog and Cat Shelter staff, leadership and board members recently attended a strategic planning retreat to develop a clear vision of direction for the future.
While appearing on Sheridan Meida’s Public Pulse program, Director Jill Moriarty told listeners what motivated her to develop a more refined strategic plan; it all began with a question.
When Moriarty became the director, she inherited a large clean-up job. It has taken years of work to get to the point she felt comfortable enough to take the next step and leave a lasting impact on the organization.
Thanks to a generous donor, that next step came in the form of Funding for Good.
The planning retreat used four days to develop a complete plan. In that time, staff, leadership and board members were asked to attend strategic planning sessions. These sessions involved reviewing and sometimes adjusting responsibilities among those involved at the shelter, creating vision and mission statements and refining other organizational steps. The plan revolves around three basic questions, “what if”, “why not” and “how to.”
From these questions a plan has been developed that Moriarty hopes will grow the shelter, care for its employees and home the animals long after she has moved on.
According to Moriarty, Antje “AJ” Evans was hired on Feb. 15, to take on the role of director of the shelter.
