Yellowstone National Park had another record setting month as the summer traveling season drew to a close.

The Park reports that there were more than 921,800 recreational visits in August 2021, making it the busiest August on record.

The old record was set in 2017, with 916,000-plus visitors.

That was around the time of the solar eclipse.

The August 2021 numbers are up 4.5% from August 2020 and up 12% from August 2019.

As of the end of August, the park has had almost 3.6 million visitors for the year, which is up 40% from 2020, and up 15% from 2019.

Various areas in the park have started or will soon start closing for the season.

All roads within the park except for the one connecting the north entrance to the northeast entrance are scheduled to close on Monday, November 8th, unless bad weather forces park rangers to move up that schedule.

The opening date for snow-mobile and snow coach travel is scheduled for December 15th.
