Sheridan/Johnson County Unemployment Rates Increase Slightly In August 2026

Unemployment rates for August in both Sheridan and Johnson Counties increased a little bit compared to the previous month.

The Wyoming Department of Workforce Services says the statewide seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for August 2026 was at 3.0%, which is unchanged from July and down from 3.3% compared to August of last year.

The US Seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for August was at 4.1%, which is also unchanged from July, and down from 4.3% compared to August 2025.

Rates in Sheridan County for August were at 2.5%, which is up 0.1% from the previous month, while Johnson County’s rate was at 2.5% and is up by 0.2%.

Sheridan County’s new rate is slightly below last year’s rate of 2.6%, while Johnson County’s new rate is up from last year’s rate of 2.2%.

The lowest unemployment rate in Wyoming for August was in Teton County at 1.8%, while the highest rate was in Niobrara County at 4.0%.

Non-farm employment numbers in the Cowboy State were up by 500 jobs from August of ‘25 to August of ‘26.
