SMH: Moms Supporting Moms
Moms Supporting Moms, a free peer-support group organized through Sheridan Memorial Hospital, is returning to help mothers navigate the emotional and physical challenges of parenthood.
Led by primary care physician Dr. Emily Denney, the group meets on the first and second Monday of each month at Sheridan Memorial Hospital Primary Care, 61 S. Gould St. in Sheridan.
Denney helped establish the group after recognizing that many mothers needed a supportive circle where they could speak openly without judgment.

While appearing on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse, Denny and Registered Nurse and International Board Certified Lactation Consultant Steph Corcoran invited every new mother, whether they have one child or many, to join the Moms Supporting Moms group. Specializing in lactation consultation, Corcoran said many new mothers experience problems during breastfeeding. These problems can lead to larger emotional problems like depression or feeling isolated.

Denny said meetings give mothers a welcoming and safe place to share experiences, ask questions and connect with women facing similar challenges. The group focuses on moms supporting other moms and Dr. Denny asks that the partners remain at home.
Conversations revolve around moms with children under the age of five years and may include postpartum wellness, stress, self-care, changing family relationships, returning to work and choosing child care.
Participation is free, and mothers may attend regardless of whether they are raising their first child or already have parenting experience.
Dr. Denny and Corcoran hope these Moms Supporting Moms meetings reduce isolation, strengthen community connections and help mothers find support when needed.
