The Center for a Vital Community (CVC) Director Amy Albrecht made an appearance on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse to discuss the results of a recently held Action Forum that focused on middle-schoolers in the Sheridan Region.

The CVC facilitates a tested and proven community problem solving process. Relying on the community to identify, discuss, brainstorm and act to create initiatives that help to solve big problems, creating ownership and accountability. Through this process, communities have fostered initiatives that not only lasted decades, but made the intended impact they were developed to create.

Earlier this month, the CVC shared the results of the most recent Action Forum that focused on the lives of middle-school aged residents in the Sheridan Region.

Albrecht elaborated on why this specific demographic was chosen.

The recent Action Forum, held on Wednesday, March 12, at the Hub on Smith, was the culmination of five weeks of Study Circles focused on supporting Middle Schoolers. Over 75 people who took part in the Study Circles attended to assist in creating long lasting impacts concerning the quality of life and development of these children becoming young adults. Albrecht said the participation and insight provided by the Middle-Schoolers was incredibly insightful and helped to pave clear and concise paths to the development of the resulting initiatives.

According to Albrecht, the credit goes to the work of over 80 Study Circle facilitators and participants. Several common themes were identified from the groups’ action items. Through the CVC’s process, these organizers narrowed the action items down to five initiatives in Sheridan and several that will focus on the Tongue River Valley and Clearmont communities.

The complete list of initiatives is available on the CVC’s website at sheridancvc.org/community-initiatives
