Work has been underway on the final 2 blocks of the downtown Sheridan Main Street construction project for about 2 ½ weeks and construction crews are finding ways to stay busy.

In an earlier story, the reason why the work between Loucks and Coffeen Avenue will take longer than anticipated, is because there’s not as many workers available compared to last year, to work on replacing the water and sewer pipelines, which is being worked on in addition to all the concrete work.

WYDOT Sheridan Resident Engineer Jake Whisonant says construction crews can’t put in the new concrete until the water line work is finished, and while the latter is taking a bit longer than normal to complete, crews have other facets of the project to work on.

“They’ve adjusted their schedules somewhat so that there’s not a lot of downtime where lots of crews are waiting on water progressions, so they’re working on ADA sidewalks, they’re working on water valves, things that don’t necessarily need to wait on other things in order to hopefully streamline the process and lead to no downtime.”

WYDOT says future public meetings regarding the Main Street work will take place on a to be announced basis.

The intersection of Main and Loucks Street is scheduled to be completed around this time next month.

Once that reopens, the intersection of Main and Coffeen Avenue will close, as well as a portion of Coffeen between Main and Gould Streets.
