Clearmont Town Council Discusses Several Items

The Clearmont Town Council met on Monday, April 15, at 6 p.m. at Clearmont Town Hall. Dave Engels and Eric Holifield of Engineering and Associates, talked to the town about the water lines, and Dave Craft, Farm Bureau Insurance, talked about the town insurance policy.

Mayor Chris Schock, in his report, said he had attended a meeting with the county commissioner on the Capital Facilities Tax,

“I’m going to push for Clearmont to get more than 1.4%. We have another Cap Tax meeting coming up, and if the council designates me as the delegate from Clearmont, we have that coming up this week.” This tax is not based on the town’s population.

Clerk Kirstie Auzqui, presented some posters about the tax can be used for in each community.

Schock said there were a lot of improvements needed on the Clearmont water lines and water system, and he said he was

Auzqui added that the Clearmont water quality is good at this point.

Schock will also give a presentation at the May 8th Sheridan County Chamber of Commerce luncheon. He reported that the new LED lights have been installed on Main Street and in Branding Iron Park.

The council also accepted a letter of resignation from Councilwoman Jennifer Betz, and Schock said he had posted a notice for anyone interested in applying for the position. He added that they had one person who sent a letter of interest for the position.

Clerk Auzqui reported that the Sheridan County Election office is looking for volunteers are needed for the 2024 election, and that anyone interested can contact the County Election Office or Auzqui. More information is available on-line.

The mayor read a proclamation declaring April to be Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention Month.

Water bills were discussed by the council as well. Auzqui said there were also vacant and abandoned houses in Clearmont, she wondered what the town would do about these buildings, but no action was taken.

Next meeting will be May 20 at 6 p.m.
