Unemployment Rates In Sheridan And Johnson Counties Drop During July 2023

Tourist season was in full force last month, and the new statewide unemployment numbers reflect that trend.

The State Department of Workforce Services says the statewide unemployment rate dropped from 3.1% in June 2023 to 3.0% in July.

It was 3.5% in July of 2022.

The U.S. seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for July 2023 was at 3.5%, which is down from 3.6% in June 2023, and the rate holds steady compared to July of last year.

All 5 northeast Wyoming counties saw unemployment numbers decrease, as the number of seasonal jobs in leisure and hospitality, as well as construction increased.

Even with the on-going construction project on Main Street in downtown Sheridan, Sheridan County’s unemployment rate for July 2023 was at 2.4%, which is down from 2.7% in June.

It was at 3.1% in July of last year, and the Department adds that from July of last year to July of this year, the county had one of the biggest one-year rate drops in the state.

Johnson County’s rate for July was at 2.5%, and that’s down from 2.7% in June and down from 3.0% in July of 2022

Teton County had the lowest unemployment rate in Wyoming in July 2023 at 1.5%, while Sweetwater and Fremont Counties had the highest rate at 3.5%.

Nonfarm employment in the Cowboy State increased by 7,500 jobs from July 2022 to July 2023.
