As the population grows in the Sheridan area, so will the demand for newer types of medical care at Sheridan Memorial Hospital.

The hospital does a physician demand analysis and needs assessment on a regular basis.

Hospital President Mike McCafferty says the hospital sees some need now, and some room is available now that some hospital doctors and their staff have been moved to the downtown facility.

He adds the hospital is looking into new types of care but also to add on and improve upon the care it already has.

“We’re actively recruiting in internal medicine and family medicine and hospitalists as well and we are also in support of our Welch Cancer Center. We’re looking at expanding with medical oncology also, and we’re looking to see some opportunities in the emergency department and look into potentially bring in another emergency medicine physician.”

McCafferty says Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon had requested to tour the hospital’s Emergency Psychiatric Assessment, Treatment, Healing and Crisis Stabilization Unit, and that was scheduled to happen last week, but his recent illness forced him to postpone it to another time.
