On Tuesday, Sept. 13, at the Sue Henry Auditorium in Sheridan High School, Brian Farmer, executive director of the Wyoming School Board Association, will present “Education Opportunities About being a School Board Trustee.”

The program will be presented again on Sept. 28 at the Johnson County School District 1 office. Both will begin at 6 p.m. and they are open to the school board candidates and the public. The candidates will be on the ballot in November.

Shane Rader, SCSD#2 trustee and the WSBA area 7 director said he organized the program due in part to the large pool of school board candidates this year. There are 15 candidates running for the four seats in SCSD#2; eight candidates running for the two seats in SCSD#1; three running for the two seats at SCSD#3; and seven running for the four seats in JCSD#1.

“It is not only for candidates, and what their roles will be as school board trustees, but also to talk to the public about what the trustees do.” He added that it will also compare school board members to other elected officials.

“The newly elected board members will be working with us, (the current school board trustees)” Rader said. “We want to give people a good knowledge of what a school board is.”

He added that the four school board districts in District 7 have been working together very well. Even though some are larger than others, they are all facing similar problems, and by addressing these problems they may be able to adapt solutions to their schools.

Anyone who wonders what being a school board member entails is invited to attend this program.

Vote out all the incumbents. Remember the mask issue.
