Last month’s flooding at Yellowstone National Park had a major impact on visitation numbers for June.

The park recorded 536,000 recreational visitors, which is a 43% drop compared to last year’s record breaking numbers for the month.

All entrances to the park were closed for 9 days because of the flooding.

The West, East and South entrances eventually reopened on a limited entry basis, which was lifted in early July.

The west entrance had the biggest drop in numbers as there were more than 96,000 visits this year, compared to more than 153,000 in June of last year.

For the year so far as of the end of June 2022, there have been almost 1.27 million visitors to the park.

That’s down from almost 1.59 million visitors compared to the same time period last year.

The north and northeast entrances to the park remain closed, and construction crews are working on building temporary access roads, until a permanent solution is put together.
