Deadline Approaching For 2023 Miss Sheridan WYO Rodeo Royalty Competition

The 2022 Sheridan WYO Rodeo is less than 1 month away, and it’s almost time to start looking for next year’s royalty.
Monday (June 20th) is the deadline for anyone who wants to enter the 2023 Miss Sheridan WYO Rodeo pageant, although applications will be accepted with a $50 late fee up until July 1st.
There are 4 categories to choose from: Queen, Senior Princess, Princess and Junior Princess.
Last year 2 princesses were named, because no one entered the Junior Princess pageant.
Kerri Parr is the President of the Sheridan WYO Rodeo Queen Board.
She says to be considered for one of the titles, contestants must score at least a 70% in horsemanship and 70% in appearance and personality.
If you’re the only one in a particular pageant competition, it’s not a guarantee that you win, because if you don’t score high enough, then there’s no winner.
Parr adds the pageant is more than just having a pretty face, a nice pair of jeans, and the ability to ride a horse.
A contestant also needs some brains.
“They don’t only to be knowledgeable about just the rodeo queen aspect, but they got to know all the rules for PRCA rodeo, and be able to talk about them with people, because with their title they are ambassadors of the rodeo, and so we describe it kind of as you’re the one that bridges the gap between the audience and the contestants, because you’re the one that they can talk to and that they get to see face to face with.”
Parr says the experience of being a member of the royalty is not just about the title itself.
It’s about having experiences in life that others don’t get to have, and it grows them as a person.
“It’s really interesting to see when they come in and when they leave after a year has passed. Their life skills, their poise, their public speaking has just gained in skill level and it’s just really fun to see that and see the strides that they have made in their self confidence, and what they’ve gained by going through the program.”
The minimum age to enter the Miss Sheridan WYO Rodeo pageant is 10 years old.
The crowning for the 4 Miss Sheridan WYO Rodeo pageant winners will take place on Thursday, July 7th.
