Male Suspect Killed In Encounter With Gillette Police

A man is dead after causing a neighborhood disturbance and refusing to cooperate with police.
According to the Gillette Police Department, just before 3:30pm on Monday (March 21st), the Department received a call from a citizen in the 500 block of East Lincoln Street, saying a man was shooting a handgun in the street.
When officers arrived on the scene they located the unidentified armed man, and requested multiple times that he drop the weapon, but he refused.
A taser was used on the suspect, but the attempt to subdue him that way was unsuccessful.
Officers told the man to drop the weapon additional times, but then the man pointed the gun at them, and one officer discharged his duty weapon, striking the suspect.
Lifesaving measures were used on the man who was taken to the Campbell County Memorial Hospital where he later died of his injuries.
The Wyoming Department of Criminal Investigation is looking into the incident.
The officers involved are on paid administrative leave, until the investigation is completed.
