In the monthly board meeting of SCSD#3 on Wednesday, Feb. 9, the board welcomed Chase Christensen as the new Superintendent for the school, and approved his contract.
Christensen was born and raised in Montana, and attended schools in Cody, Wyoming. His father was a game warden in Montana, and worked in the Rosebud and Broadus area.
He graduated from the University of Wyoming with a finance degree. He began substitute teaching and enjoyed it, then went back to school for an education degree. He got a job in Wheatland, where he coached volleyball and was the FFA advisor. He then went to Torrington, where he taught in an alternative school.
In other business, the school board congratulated Tamica Smith, who was selected to the US Senate Youth Program. Dr. Boyd Brown had this to say about the honor.
The board also approved Misty McTaggart’s contact for the 2022-23, and approved two letters of resignation from High School head volleyball coach Kenneth DeCock and Agriculture Education teacher and FFA Advisor Monica Castaneda.
Mrs. Betz reported that the District FFA Speech meet will be held in Clearmont on March 2. She said that the Junior and Senior High Music Honor Society will hold a Valentine’s Day Dinner and Sing-along from 6-7 p.m. at the Clearmont Community Church. Call the school to purchase tickets for the event.
The board then welcomed Christensen, who was in attendance at the meeting, and welcomed him to the community. Tiffany Lewis expanded on what she felt he could do for the school.
The high gas prices were discussed, and the board talked about possibly finding a place to set up a bulk fuel tank for the school’s needs, but there is no room on the school property, and the school will continue to look into other options.
Dr. Brown reported on the legislature, and some bills that the school is following at the legislature. Redistricting was also discussed, and concerns were raised about how the redistricting may affect the school. Brown did say that there is a lot of support for small schools in Wyoming. Brown urged anyone interested can go on the Wyoming Legislative website to read the bills and contract your representative.
