In just two weeks the Wyoming Legislature will convene the 2022 Budget Session in Cheyenne.

On even numbered years, the Legislature convenes in a Budget Session beginning on the second Monday of February, which typically lasts 20 legislative days. Senators and Representatives have just those 20 days to review, amend and approve a state budget.

Although Wyoming lawmakers do not face the fiscal mountain that they faced last year, redistricting the Cowboy State will consume much of the session this year. There are also hundreds of other bills that must be introduced and addressed. The final day to introduce bills is scheduled for Feb. 18, but the budget will be the top issue.

While appearing on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse program Wyoming Representatives, Cyrus Western, R -Big Horn and Barry Crago, R – Buffalo told listeners how they prepared for the upcoming session.

According to Crago, there will be a limited amount of time to address much else outside of the budget and redistricting.

Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon released his budget proposals in the middle of November. Within his biennial budget, he has proposed reducing spending by $500 million.

Rep. Mark Kinner, R – Sheridan, sits on the House Appropriations Committee and has been working for the last couple of weeks. The committee has been preparing the budget bill and hopes to have it in the hands of lawmakers as soon as session convenes.

Even with all the effort in preparing to head to Cheyenne, the Sheridan and Johnson County Representatives know there will be long days ahead.

The session will convene on Feb 14.

Sheridan Media will have more stories concerning the interview with the Representatives in future stories.
