Sheridan PD debunk myths: public intoxication

Sheridan Media continues the ongoing series featuring Sheridan Police Department Chief Travis Koltiska and Captain Tom Ringley debunking myths around the practices and policies of the SPD.
Leadership and officers within the SPD have heard many myths and assumptions that can and have been made regarding law enforcement and the policies they follow.
In the interest of transparency, while appearing on Sheridan Meida’s Public Pulse program, Koltiska and Ringley took the time to discuss and either debunk or confirm myths that surround the department.
A popular myth states that any intoxicated individual walking home from an establishment or private residence will be arrested and charged with public intoxication.
Koltiska explained officers will take an intoxicated individual into custody if that person is so inebriated that they pose a danger to themselves or a danger to others.
It is always the best practice to receive a ride home from a designated driver who has not consumed alcohol or taking a taxi to ensure one reaches their destination safely.
