Last month, Sheridan ended up tying its record for highest temperature ever recorded at 107 degrees Fahrenheit, however the entire month itself, was not the warmest June on record.
According to the U-S National Weather Service Office in Billings, Montana, the average temperature in Sheridan for June 2021, was 69.1 degrees, which is 7.3 degrees warmer than normal.
That ended up being the 2nd highest average June temperature, but it’s not even close to June 1988, when the average temperature was 10 degrees warmer at 79.1 degrees.
Sheridan only received about 1/3rd of an inch of precipitation for the month, making it the 4th driest June on record.
Elsewhere, the U-S National Weather Service Office in Riverton says the average temperature in Buffalo for the month of June was 70.2 degrees.
That average is 8.3 degrees above normal, and it’s the highest average June temperature on record.
It was also hot enough to make it the 2nd driest June, with about 2/3rds of an inch of precipitation recorded.
The Riverton office adds that last month also ended up being the driest and 2nd warmest June in Yellowstone National Park.
It was also the 3rd warmest June in both Gillette and Newcastle, according to the U-S National Weather Service Office in Rapid City, South Dakota.
Meteorologist Nickolai Reimer at the National Weather Service office in Billings, says most places have not yet reached their highest average temperature for the year and don’t expect much relief anytime soon.
“Looking at the outlook for June, July and August from the climate prediction center, pretty much most of the western US, not just there around Sheridan or up here in the Northern Rockies, is for above normal temperatures and then for precipitation likely continuing that’s below normal precipitation that we’ve been seeing.”
Temperatures this week are forecasted to be in the mid to upper 90’s on Wednesday and Thursday (July 7th and 8th).
