Variance Approved for BHS Bonfire

The Buffalo City Council was approached to approve a variance request to allow a bonfire near Buffalo High School for an end-of-the-school-year celebration on Saturday, May 1st.

City Attorney Ben Kirven, representing the BHS students putting on the event, asked for the variance at this week’s meeting.

The council asked Fire Chief Gomer Gammon if he had concerns about the bonfire, which he said he didn’t have, other than to say if the weather and conditions on that date made the bonfire a possible hazard, that he would shut it down.

The council approved the request with the caveat that the fire chief had the final decision based on conditions.
