County OKs Grant for Historic Preservation Commission

The Sheridan County Commission has approved and accepted a grant agreement for the Sheridan County Preservation Plan Project.

The agreement, between the State of Wyoming, Department of State Parks and Cultural Resources; State Historic Preservation Office; and the Sheridan County Historic Preservation Commission, will provide just over $10,000 in funding for the project.

According to the county website, “the Historic Preservation commission enhances and protects Sheridan County’s cultural heritage and preserves the natural environments by partnering with citizens, agencies and organizations to identify, evaluate, protect, educate and encourage stewardship of the county’s cultural resources.”

“The goals of the commission are to promote public awareness of historic preservation within the county; develop and encourage partnerships to improve communication with other groups that are influential in promoting historic preservation; and, create new or update current plans so that the most effective preservation tools are available.”
