Pat BlairTracey Deromedi has accepted a write-in nomination to Ranchester’s town council.
Two seats were up for election this year in Ranchester, but only one candidate, Jeffrey Barron, filed for an official spot on the general election ballot. When a spot is vacant after the election, the position is first offered to a write-in candidate.
Sheridan County Clerk Eda Schunk Thompson said Deromedi was contacted after the election canvass Thursday and asked if she would accept the write-in nomination. Deromedi said she would.
Over 16,500 ballots were cast in this year’s general election. Thompson said as of 7 a.m. Tuesday when polls opened, the number of registered voters casting ballots in this year’s election was 7 percent higher than at the same time in 2016, the most recent presidential election year.
Following Thursday’s canvass of the election, results were sent to the Secretary of State’s office. The state canvass will be held Tuesday.
