Trial Date Set for Man Charged With Aggravated Assault and Battery

A trial date has been set for a 57-year-old man charged with Aggravated Assault and Battery. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter has the details.
Douglas Whetstone entered a plea of not guilty and not guilty by reason of impairment or mental deficiency to the charge of Aggravated Assault and Battery at an Arraignment Hearing this week in Fourth Judicial District Court in Sheridan. The charge is the result of an incident that occurred at a residence in Sheridan County on September 3 when Whetstone allegedly held a gun to the forehead of another individual.
District Court Judge John Fenn scheduled the three-day jury trial to begin on February 22 of next year and set the pretrial conference for January 21 at 9 am. A motion to modify Whetstone’s bond was denied by the Court and the $10,000 cash bond that was previously set in Circuit Court was continued under the same terms and conditions. Aggravated Assault and Battery is a Felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.
