School Board Vetoes Sale of Land to Rural Health

The Board of Trustees for the Johnson County School District reviewed a request from the County Rural Health Care Board to purchase land adjacent to the district’s administration offices on which to build an ambulance barn.

Discussions by the board brought to light concerns that there wasn’t enough information provided to the board by the Rural Health District, the location of the proposed ambulance barn close to the new Boys and Girls Club, and the fact that the district should hang onto the property in case it may be needed in the future.

District Superintendent Jim Wagner said, “once you lose land or give up land it’s pretty difficult to get back.”

After some further discussion the board voted on whether or not to sell the property to the Rural Health District, and the sale was denied on a split vote.
