Published

on

Johnson County’s Shoreline Regulations concerning Lake DeSMet will be reviewed and discussed in the coming weeks, according to the county commissioners, who have been contacted by landowners there who want to make changes to their properties adjacent to the shoreline but are not allowed to do so under the regulations.

Commission Chair Bill Novotny explained the issue further.

After some discussions with County Attorney Tucker Ruby and members of the Lake DeSmet Advisory Board, it was decided that discussions and review of the regulations will continue, but no specific plans were made at the meeting.

Take a boat out on DeSmet and see the “private” beaches and boat docks being put in. One of the new mansion owners near the water is actively “making improvements” to the land under the water which he does not own. Can I go out there and do the same? If he gets his way this could mean losing public access to the shore line.
