Government Affairs Director for the Wyoming Wildlife Federation speaks against the sale of public lands

Recently the Trump administration has popularized the idea of selling off federal public lands. The proposal has been gaining traction among Republicans in Congress, the courts and in the White House.
President Donald Trump has proposed using the funds from the sales to offset the cost of extending his tax cuts. Earlier this month, the Senate, including US Sens. John Barasso and Cythnia Lummis, defeated an amendment opposing the sale of public lands in the ongoing budget reconciliation process, by a 48-51 vote.
But many conservation groups are working to bring awareness to the public that once these lands are gone, they’re gone.
Co-founder of Artemis national sportswomen’s group, a pro team member with First Lite, and Government Affairs Director for the Wyoming Wildlife Federation, Jess Johnson, appeared on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse to discuss the pitfalls of selling public lands.
Johnson said this is a topic of discussion that has arisen multiple times over the course of the last 100 years. She said the proposal to balance the federal budget by selling off public lands and framing the idea as a solution to the housing crisis, is deeply flawed and dangerously short-sighted.

Although Barrasso and Lummis voted against the amendment opposing the sale of public lands, Johnson said the best course of action for the public is to voice their opinions to the Wyoming delegation.

Please keep Wyoming “open spaces and natural lands”. There are already to many subdivisions and corporate ranches that are eating up our beautiful areas. Once the land is sold – you do not get it back.
