The Buffalo City Council has approved and accepted a Mineral Royalty Grant agreement for funds to help complete the Buffalo Wells Project.

Mayor Shane Schrader explains further what the funding will specifically do.

The grant, in the amount of nearly $480,000, will help to complete the project which is drilling water wells and building transmission lines to tie them into the city’s water treatment plant as a backup water source for the city.

According to the State Lands and Investment Board website, the Mineral Royalty Grant (MRG) program awards grants to alleviate an emergency situation which poses a direct and immediate threat to public health, safety or welfare; to comply with federal or state mandates; or to provide an essential public service.

The wells project is expected to be completed this fall.
