The 5th Annual Quilt Show at the Clearmont Historical Center in Clearmont is honoring lifetime Clearmont quilter Addie Cook.

Sandy Hirz, director of the Clearmont Historical Center, talked about this year’s show.

In addition to Cook’s quilts, there is a display of her other collections, old buttons, marbles and thimbles. Cook made over 500 baby quilts for newborn babies and donated to the parents as they left the hospital with their new baby. One quilt that Cook did had blocks of all 50 states, along with fabric that showed each state’s state flower. In the center of the quilt was Wyoming, surrounded by the Indian Paintbrush.

Hirz said there are also quilts from those who participate each year,

There are also antique quilts from area families. One quilt is on loan from the Museum of the Bighorns, and the story of this quilt was addressed in an earlier Sheridan Media story on March 6th, Museum at the Bighorns Quilt on Display.

The 1933 red and green applique quilt was created by Mrs. E. W. Robbins, and was a “Merit Award” winner in the 1933 Sears and Roebuck and Co. Century of Progress National Quilt Contest.

Fran Felz, volunteer at the Center and a long-time quilter who started making quilts in 1954, had this to say.

Felz also makes many of her own shirts piecing them together out of small scraps

The show will run through the month of March, and as of March 10, around 30 people have come to the Center to enjoy the quilts and leave comments about the quilts and the show.

Each quilt has a number, and there is a card attached telling a little about the quilt. Visitors to the show are asked to vote for their favorite quilt, with categories being Overall Favorite; Most Colorful; Most Unique Design and Most Traditional. Visitors are encouraged to leave comment as well.

Hirz said the group wondered what pattern is on this quilt, and they would welcome information about it.

Some of the quotes received so far this month.

“Each quilt displayed well to fully appreciate all the work that has been put into them. Thank you for showcasing the uniqueness of each quilt – what a treasure.” – Judy Stallman, Sheridan.

“Thank you for letting me be a part of these masterpieces that will be here forever.” -Amanda Schmidt, Brady, NE.

“So glad I stopped,” – Shane Smith, Powell, Wyoming.

“Beautiful Show,” Lexie Culligan, Sheridan.

Hirz added that although the signs and the advertising say the Center is open from 10-2, but those interested in seeing the quilts can call the Center at 307-758-4685. “We will probably be here,” Hirz said.
