JCSD1 Board Approves New Alternative High School

At their meeting this week, the Johnson County School Board voted to approve a new alternative high school and designate its location.
The Wyoming Department of Education, in a letter to the district last month, gave approval to the district’s application for the alternative school, citing strengths in their application including a focus on research-based risk factors, personalized learning plans, and a detailed evaluation plan and outcomes.
According to the letter, the school will be resourced through the funding model following its first year of operation.
A formal evaluation must be submitted to the WDE every two years measuring the effectiveness of the school’s programs in meeting the needs of
the student population and action plans for addressing any necessary program improvements.
New West Alternative High School was approved by a unanimous vote of the board, and will be located at the district’s Learning Center building on West Fetterman Street.
