Jo Co Commission Approves Letter for Disaster Declaration

Johnson County’s Commissioners, at their last regular meeting, voted to send a Letter of Support to Governor Mark Gordon, who contacted the U.S. Department of Agriculture asking for a disaster declaration for the state stemming from this summer’s wildfires.

Chairman Bill Novotny asked the commission for approval.

According to an earlier release, Governor Gordon, In his letter to United States Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack, submitted his USDA request for a Secretarial disaster designation due to impacts of wildfires that burned more than 629,000 acres across Wyoming as of the date of the request.

Losses from the House Draw fire in Johnson County alone, which burned more than 170,000 acres, were estimated at $25 million.
