Aaron PalmerJohnson County Emergency Management Coordinator James Cataline, discussed the recent Camporee event in Campbell County, saying it didn’t have as much of an impact on Johnson County as officials originally thought it might.
He explained to the county commission that planning and preparedness by retailers and business owners in Johnson County contributed to the lesser impacts.
Cataline said there were visitors to Buffalo and Johnson County during the Camporee event, but that he did not believe there were any negative impacts on the communities here from it.
He said, “I don’t think it was as daunting as we were concerned about. I do think it was good for the community.”

Unfortunately there was a lot of negative talk going around about the Camporee all of which turned out to be untrue and unfounded. Gillette, where I live, benefitted positively from the Camporee. They did a lot for the community and I barely noticed they were even in town. Very nice people.
