A Lame Deer High School graduate who owns the Montana High School record for most points scored in a single basketball game is dead, after being involved in a head-on 2-vehicle collision.

The Montana Highway Patrol says this past Friday afternoon (July 26th), 21-year old Journey Emerson was traveling in his vehicle on eastbound US Highway 212 east of Lame Deer.

At some point, he attempted to pass a commercial vehicle in a no passing zone and collided head-on with a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction.

Emerson was pronounced dead at the scene and the Patrol added that he was not wearing his seat-belt.

The other occupants of both vehicles sustained injuries, two of which were listed as life-threatening.

Speed is being investigated as a contributing factor in the crash.

In February 2022, Emerson set a Montana High School single-game basketball record, by scoring 82 points in 1 game.
