A Sheridan man was arraigned on two charges Tuesday in Fourth Judicial District Court. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter has the details.

On March 5, 42-year-old David Lamers was arrested for an incident at a residence in Sheridan where he allegedly used a knife to threaten the life of an individual and knowingly and recklessly caused bodily harm to a household member by use of physical force. Lamers, at a hearing Tuesday in District Court, pleaded not guilty and not guilty by reason of mental impairment or deficiency to the charges of aggravated assault and battery and domestic battery.

A mental health evaluation will be conducted by the Wyoming State Hospital to determine whether Lamers is competent to stand trial. District Court Judge Darci Phillips scheduled a #4 stack three-day jury trial to begin on July 29 and set a pretrial conference date for July 2 at 10:30. Phillips said the pretrial conference and trial dates may have to be reset in the future depending on when the Court receives the results for the evaluation from the State Hospital. Aggravated assault and battery is a felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a fine of $10,000. Domestic battery is a misdemeanor punishable by up to six months in jail and a fine of up to $750.
