The University of Wyoming College of Business has launched the UW Leadership Academy, a unique experiential course to develop students’ economic and civic leadership capabilities while providing them with Wyoming networking experiences.

The Leadership Academy, which begins this fall, will include visits to communities such as Casper, Lander and Sheridan. Students participating in the course will have the opportunity to experience challenges in communities across Wyoming and learn from the next generation of leaders.

“The Leadership Academy will elevate students to new heights by empowering them to navigate the economic challenges of the future while developing their personal leadership skills,” says Chris Haller, director of UW’s Center for Principle-Based Leadership and Ethics.

The student-focused academy is a collaboration between the Center for Principle-Based Leadership and Ethics and Leadership Wyoming. Leadership Wyoming is an organization with 23 years of experience providing leadership training for Wyoming citizens throughout the state.

“The demand for trained leaders in all aspects of our society always exceeds supply. I am pleased to help make the UW Leadership Academy a reality,” says Greg Dyekman, one of the main benefactors of the new program. “As a graduate of Leadership Wyoming, I am particularly happy to see that it is a partner in the UW Leadership Academy. Our students will really benefit from this experience.”

Dyekman is a partner at Long Reimer Winegar LLP and serves on the College of Business advisory board.

The academy’s student cohort will participate in trips to Casper, Sheridan and Lander during the fall semester. While in the communities, students will spend time engaging with local businesses, interacting with local community leaders and exploring the top industries and issues affecting the communities. All transportation, lodging and meals will be provided to ensure a seamless and enriching experience.

Although the course is offered by the UW College of Business, the program is open to all undergraduate students on campus. Interested students can apply for the Leadership Academy here. UW faculty/staff and community members may nominate a student leader here. The deadline to apply is April 1.

For more information about the Leadership Academy, prospective applicants can visit the website, or call Haller at (307) 766-6271 or email chris.haller@uwyo.edu.
