Electrical Code Adoption

On July 1, 2023, the State of Wyoming formally adopted the 2023 National Electrical Code. The City of Sheridan has six months to adopt the same codes in order to maintain home rule status. City Public Works Director Hanns Mercer said home rule allows the City’s building department to review and approve building plans and perform all necessary inspections, which allows the City to provide a much higher quality of service than the state would be able to provide locally. First reading of an ordinance to adopt the 2023 National Electrical Code will be an item of consideration at the next regular meeting of the Sheridan City Council.
Mercer says there are a number of proposed amendments that are included in the new code adoption.
Mercer said the code adoption ordinance was submitted to the Big Horn Home Builders Association for review and they are recommending the City Council adopt the new electrical code.
