Winter Storm Warning Issued For Big Horn Mountains: October 11-13, 2023

Winter is on its way, and the Big Horn Mountains will get the first dose.
The National Weather Service in both Riverton and in Billings, MT have issued a winter storm warning for the mountain range.
The watch is in effect from 6pm Wednesday, October 11th, until 6am Friday, October 13th.
Heavy snowfall with accumulations between 10 to 20 inches are in the forecast, with higher amounts on northeast facing slopes that are above 8,000 feet above sea level.
Travel on both US Highway 14 and US Highway 14A in the Burgess Junction and Granite Pass areas, as well as US Highway 16 over the Powder River Pass area, could be difficult as a result of blowing snow and reduced visibility.
Heavy, wet snow could make for difficult travel on unpaved mountain roads.
Recreation in the high country will be impacted by wintry conditions.
Hunters and others heading into the backcountry should prepare for wet and cold conditions.
