cvannoyAt the Monday, September 11 SCSD#2 Board meeting, there was a moment of silence observed in remembrance of the 9-11 terror attack on the twin towers. After the silence had been observed, Superintendent Scott Stults recognized the work of the SCSD#2 Board of Trustee members.
He also thanked Jeremy Bland of Interior Images for the donation of their time and labor when doing the new weight room floor preparation and installation.
Kristie Garriffa, assistant superintendent, reported on the US News and World Report article which named SCSD#2 as one of the best high schools in the nation in 2023.
The cheerleader national qualifiers were recognized, and Allie Thorne said this about the five girls who qualified.
She added that in November the girls will travel to Florida and Disney World to perform with other All-American Cheerleaders from across the country. Trustee Ed Fessler felt the board needed to hear a cheer from the girls.
Heidi Richins was introduced by Scott Cleland, SHS principal who acknowledged for the WACTE Career Guidance Award in 2023. Trustee Michael Lansing had this to say about the CTE program.
In the audience comment section of the meeting, Ian Gale, who was accompanied by many members of his boy scout troop, talked to the board about letting private school students become a part of the SHS High School Band.
Nancy Stevens addressed the board on the issue of her emails not being returned by the board.
Shawn Kelly, and Katelyn and Rayna Loller talked about incorporating a girls baseball team as a part of Sheridan High School. Katelyn spoke on behalf of her daughter, saying she was speaking as a community member but also as a mom.
In other business the board heard reports from Garriffa about the state assessment results, and summer school update from assistant superintendent Rebecca Adsit. The board also approved a bid for the replacement of the carpeting with plastic tread on SHJS stairs for safety reasons. The board approved the Interior Images bid to do the project. They board also approved the 2022-23 audit.
