School in SCSD#3 will start on August 14. Chase Christensen, superintendent, talked about his first year at Arvada-Clearmont, as well as his plans for the upcoming school year.

He said the school’s number one goal is to increase academic success for the A/C students. One area that they will be really working on throughout the year is literacy, using the WY BILT grant that will allow them to really dig literacy.

He added that the vast majority of professional development for the year is one of two things, one will be

He talked about the strategic plan and how it speaks to community engagement and academic performance. He also said that “We want our great teachers performing at their best in the classroom every day.” He added that it was a tremendous staff at Arvada-Clearmont School.

Christensen said that they will have between 80 and 85 students enrolled to start the year.

When asked what he saw as the Arvada-Clearmont School’s strengths were, Christensen said he was going to focus on three points

“Additionally, we are getting good at intervention when students have gaps to fill. We identifying those gaps and our teachers are attacking them.” He mentioned that they had 16 kids in summer school, and nearly all of them showed tremendous growth during summer school.

He added that although the school is small, there are several activities, and any student who wants to can participate in an activity. Not only can a student participate, but they will soon be a leader, Christensen said.

He added that they are going to be asking all the students to think about how they could be leaders; in how they treat each other, treat the staff and teachers, and have them think about how they, as a part of the school and the Clearmont community can contribute to the wider community as a well.

Clearmont has an excellent FFA program, and there was good student participation in that as well in the local 4-H clubs.

Christensen wanted to thank the staff and teachers for their hard work over the summer in getting ready for the upcoming school year.

He also wanted to mention the upcoming community BBQ on August 8, from 4-6 p.m. Parents and students as well as community members are welcome to come.
