The Sheridan County Republican Party has announced they are accepting applications for registered Sheridan County Republicans who wish to serve as a Sheridan County Commissioner, to fulfill the remainder of Commissioner Allen Thompson’s term.

Thompson is expected to resign and vacate his office effective July 31, to serve as the executive director of The Wyoming Association of Sheriffs and Chiefs of Police.

The Sheridan County Republican Party is now searching for an interested resident to fill the position. To apply, interested parties must send a one-page letter of intent and a resume, no more than two pages, to Sheridan County Republican Party Chairman Bryan Miller. The packet can be delivered either in person or by mail to: 2071 Featherbed Ln., Sheridan, WY 82801.

A maximum of three pages of documentation will be accepted, no more, according to the party. The deadline for submissions is 5 p.m. on July 28.

The Sheridan County Republican Party Central Committee plans to meet on Aug. 5, with the intent to interview all candidates.

The Central Committee members will then select three candidates to present to the Sheridan County Commissioners who will select one of the three candidates to finish Thompson’s term.

The Republican Central committee will decide on three people for the Board to choose from. The seat will then come up in the General Election in 2024. The temporary vacancy will be filled until the next election, when the voters will decide. So the answer to the poll question is, in effect, both will happen. This is all by law, since Thompson resigned in his first year.
