According to studies, the average American spends 90,000 hours of their life at work. Sheridan College and the VA Health Care System would like that time to be spent doing something that fills the worker with purpose.

During a recent episode of Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse program, Academic Advisor for Sheridan College Karen St Clair and Anthony Fairbanks from the Sheridan VA Health Care System, talked about the upcoming 9th Annual Community-wide Career Fair hosted at Sheridan College. The fair will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 26, inside Sheridan College’s Golden Dome.

According to Fairbanks, the career fair has grown steadily over the course of the past eight years. This year is the largest one yet, with 58 employers in attendance. These employers are a collection of multiple industries with many different jobs available in varying fields.

St. Clair told listeners, if they are looking for a new career or to break into a field, attend the fair with a brushed-up resume because these employers are ready to hire.

It’s no longer uncommon for the American worker to take advantage of an opportunity and improve their situation, according to Fairbanks. He works to find veterans the job they want and more than just a job to pay the bills. While many may argue that people no longer wish to work, Fairbanks said the newer generations entering the workplace have different priorities than many others in the past workforce.
