Council Approves Vaping Ordinance

The Sheridan City Council met for their regularly scheduled business meeting Monday night. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter the details.

Vaping Ordinance

An ordinance regarding vaping and tobacco use by minors in the City of Sheridan received third reading approval by the City Council. The ordinance, as it was approved, prohibits the use or possession of tobacco or vaping devices by anyone under the age of 21 within the City. The conviction of a first offense may be punishable in Municipal Court by a fine of up to $100; a second offense may be punishable by a fine of up to $200 and may include up to six months of supervised or unsupervised probation; and a third offense shall be punishable by a fine of at least $300 and shall require up to six months of supervised probation. The ordinance passed by a vote of 6 to 1, with Councilman Andrew Patceg being the lone no vote.

The Council, by a vote of 5 to 2, also approved a three year contract with City Administrator Stu McRae. The annual base salary in the contract is $144,918.54. Councilors Kristen Jennings and Andrew Patceg voted against the new contract.
