JCSD#1 Hires Third-Party Investigator for Special Audit

At their last regular meeting, the Johnson County School Board voted to hire Holland & Hart to act as a third-party independent investigator in an ongoing special audit/investigation of the district.
Although no further explanation of the reason was given at the meeting, Superintendent Charles Auzqui talked with Sheridan Media about what the investigation is about and why the hire was necessary.
Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) funds are US Department of Education funds provided to districts through the Wyoming Department of Education (WDE).
The approved uses of funding for Wyoming school districts is outlined on the US Department of Education website. We have provided a link with this story at sheridanmedia.com.
Auzqui said the audit/investigation is very real and serious and there can possibly be some consequences for the district, but they are cooperating with the investigators and hope to make some changes that will be better for the district moving forward.
Auzqui said ESSER funds are not typical federal grants so this is not a typical audit, but he said the district will work with the federal agency performing the audit and make sure the district does comply.
Auzqui said the goal is to have the audit completed within the next couple of months.
