SPD releases crime data reports for public use

When Sheridan Police Department Chief Travis Koltiska earned the position of Chief, he instituted the culture and policies of community policing within the department. This culture and the policies are embraced and implemented by SPD Captain Tom Ringley and other officers at the department.
Community policing comprises three key components; community partnerships, organizational transformation and problem solving.
According to Koltiska, transparency plays a crucial role in the development of trust and reliability of the department within the community. According to Ringley, transparency in policing emphasizes making policies and procedures, data and information, and decision-making open to the public.
As part of the policy of transparency, the SPD has recently started posting crime data reports to the department Media Release and Activity Summary webpage on the City of Sheridan website.
While appearing on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse program, Koltiska told listeners this information is compiled through the use of the SPD Incident Management System.
Ringley told listeners this information is valuable for the public to not only follow and research the actions of the SPD, but for families wishing to move into Sheridan.
The Media Release and Activity Summary web page containing the crime data reports can be found here.
