As the separation continues between the Northern Wyoming Community College District and Gillette College, some employees will soon be terminated and rehired.
Most of the current employees at the college are considered employees of the district as well, and it was that way before the vote for the separation became official.
Both the District and College have agreed to a Memorandum of Understanding that the college will take over all costs associated with each employee in Gillette.
The transfer will be done in phases between the end of June 2022 and August of 2023.
District president Doctor Walter Tribley says the employees will be terminated by the district at the end of one day, and then will be hired by the college the following day, to avoid any lapse that may occur with health insurance benefits.
“It’s an inherently human resource generated business, so we’re starting with the employees. We share that value across the table with our partners in Gillette and so it’s not going to be perfect, there’s going to be sticky wickets, but we’ll work through those as they come up.”
Doctor Tribley adds the first group to be transferred will be information technology positions, Gillette based facilities positions, the Gillette College Foundation positions and the rodeo coach.
