Once projects wrap, Sheridan will own all of 5th Street

Upon completion of the beautification and improvement project and installation of the traffic light project on 5th Street and North Sheridan Avenue, the City of Sheridan will take control of 5th Street from the Wyoming Department of Transportation.
The WYDOT Commission awarded Casper Electric a $482,955.70 contract to install the signal. Casper Electric and its six Wyoming based subcontractors are scheduled to complete the install by May 19. The cost of this signal is being paid for from Highway Safety Improvement Program funds.
While appearing on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse program, Senior Public Relations Specialist for WYDOT District 4 Laura Dalles told listeners these kinds of turnovers are contracted and commonplace.
Sheridan City Administrator Stu McRae told Sheridan Media that the city has a great relationship with the local WYDOT team and greatly values their partnership.
“We see this traffic light as easing congestion considerably at this intersection and could not have done it without the help of WYDOT,” McRae said. “We will assume the responsibility of 5th Street in exchange, but will benefit much more into the future because of this project.”
Currently, WYDOT manages maintenance and control of 5th Street. Once the projects are completed, the City will assume responsibility and ownership.
