The Holiday travel season is upon us and the Wyoming Highway Patrol is urging motorists to get to their destinations safely and celebrate responsibly.

So far in 2021, there have been 66 alcohol/drug related fatalities on Wyoming Highways.

That number accounts for more than 60-percent of all highway fatalities in the Cowboy State for the year.

A patrol spokesperson says those deaths were 100% preventable and a driver deciding to drive impaired is not only risking their lives, but the lives of everyone around them.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says almost 29 people die each day in alcohol related crashes.

Tips to prevent an alcohol/drug related crash include calling a taxi or ride service, make sure all guests at a party leave with a sober driver, and always wear your seat-belt regardless if you’ve been drinking or not.
